President Barack Obama intends on cracking down on drug and gun trafficking between the US and Mexico.
So far this whole Mexican gun problem is being portrayed by the press as guns coming from the US into Mexico by the truckloads. In actuality this could be further from the truth.
By strengthening border patrols and cooperation between U.S. and Mexican officials, the President believes would help solve the problem with cross-border crime.
So, now the President and our officials think there may be a problem with border patrol? Give me a break! How long has this been going on? Haven’t we been discussing illegal immigration for at least 20 years now. And why are we so concerned with Mexico’s gun problem. We need to beef up our own police force in and around the the US cities that border Mexico. let the Mexican officials deal with their own drug cartels. Why are we being so reactive to this situation instead of proactive?
On his most recent trip to Mexico, Obama says
“I will not pretend that this is Mexico’s responsibility alone. The demand for these drugs in the United States is what’s helping keep these cartels in business,” Mr. Obama said at a joint news conference with Mr. Calderon. “This war is being waged with guns purchased not here, but in the United States. More than 90 percent of the guns recovered in Mexico come from the United States, many from gun shops that line our shared border.”
According to FOXNews:
“But in fact, only 17 percent of guns found at Mexican crime scenes have been traced to the U.S.
An ATF spokeswoman told FOXNews.com earlier this month in a clarification of the statistic used by her own agency’s assistant director “that over 90 percent of the traced firearms originate from the U.S.”
But a large percentage of the guns recovered in Mexico do not get sent back to the U.S. for tracing because it is obvious from their markings that they do not come from the U.S.
This to me seems a little supicious. Once again you have the drive by media and the democrats trying to build their case against gun control. Maybe if we had been a little more concerned about our borders 20 years ago, Mexico and the US would not be in this situation.
