The Employment Non-Discrimination Act of 2009 (ENDA) is a proposed federal law which would have the effect, according to the Human Rights Campaign (HRC), of “making it illegal to fire, refuse to hire or refuse to promote employees simply based on a person’s sexual orientation or gender identity.”

ENDA (H.R. 2981 -hr-3017-enda – S. 1584) has been changed from the “gay-only” version the House passed in 2007 to include language banning job discrimination based on “gender identity” as well as sexual orientation – complete with special protections for the transgendered. It would mean your child’s teacher, if he were a male but “felt” like a female, could go into the women’s bathroom.

ENDA is aimed at providing heightened protections for a particular sexual behavior – homosexuality. It would grant special consideration on the basis of “sexual orientation” that would not be extended to other employees in the workplace.

ENDA violates employers’ and employees’ Constitutional freedoms of religion, speech and association. The proposed legislation would prohibit employers from taking their deeply held beliefs into account when making personnel decisions. This would pose an unprecedented intrusion by the federal government into people’s lives.

ENDA would approvingly bring private behavior considered imoral by many into the public square. By declaring that all sexual preferences are equally valid, ENDA would change national policy supporting marriage and family.

HRC claims that ENDA does not apply to religious organizations, but the 2007 version of the law only provided a religious exemption for religious positions that were involved in actual teaching or proclamation of doctrine.

Such a limited exemption, some pro-family legal experts argue, would mean that a Christian school that was hiring a secretary, janitor or football coach would not be allowed to reject a homosexual who applied for the slot.

Christian concerns about ENDA are not paranoia. As with the case of hate crime laws, when ENDA-style measures have been passed in other places around the world, religious institutions quickly come under pressure.

ENDA is just one of many ways that gay activists are manipulating law and policy to force Americans to endorse their lifestyle and to muzzle and punish those who disagree.

Senate Bill 773 and 778 introduced by, introduced by Senator Jay Rockefeller, D-W.V., are being called the Cybersecurity Act of 2009, which would create a new Office of the National Cybersecurity Advisor(just what we need an Internet Czar), reportable directly to the president and is supposedly responsible for defending the country from cyber attack. I have a feeling that it is going to be like Big Brother watching over all of us.

A working draft of the legislation obtained by an Internet privacy group also indicates future plans to grant the Secretary of Commerce access to all privately owned information networks deemed to be critical to the nation’s infrastructure “without regard to any provision of law, regulation, rule or policy restricting such access.”

I don’t know about you but I don’t like giving the President and his cronies this much power. This flies in the face of our Constitution and severly restricts the rights of private citizens and private business. But what’s new? Our Constitional Rights have been slowly taken away for a long time. At some point the people will either capitulate or rise against the tyranny.

I guess it’s official now that Gov. Mark Sanford has accepted $700 Billion in Federal Stimulus funds. I applaud Sanford for holding out this long and admire him for having the courage to stand up for Washington. However, I wish that he had not caved in to the political pressures. It’s hard to imagine what the pressures of his decision were but I fear that his acceptance of these funds will do his political career great harm.

The SC Attorney General issued an opinion that only the Governor could request the money. A massive rally was held on the statehouse grounds Wednesday afternoon encouraging the Governor to take the money. Then on Thursday the Senate spent most of its session debating the action, or inaction, of the Governor on the stimulus budget and its impact on the state budget.

Governor Sanford said he wants and intends to use all of the stimulus money. However, he says he will not exercise his power to use the money until state lawmakers agree to spend the entire $700 million of the $2.8 billion federal stimulus package on state debt repayment. The question I have is exactly what sort of strings will be attached to this money by the federal government? Will we end up like GM or AIG? I fear that this will be the case. In the long run this is going to do far more harm to our school systems and way of life. This action will set a precedent with far reaching repercussions.

Sanford will only be able to accomplish his goal in two ways. The first is to ignore two letters from the Obama administration that specifically said the federal money could not be used for debt repayment. The second is to take the $700 billion out of the state budget for debt repayment and then replace the same budget funds with federal stimulus money.

Do ordinary people in South Carolina not understand that this $700 billion is just not a free gift? These are funds that will put this state into deeper debt. Sometimes you have to sacrifice in order to gain. We live in a society where all we want is “more” and we don’t care that we have to borrow from our grandchildren to get it.

On March 24th Benjamin Cardin introduced a new Bill called the Newspaper Revitalization Act

…and you thought the “Fairness Doctrine” was bad. How about having a Fairness Doctrine disguised as a bailout for all of the liberal newspapers which are headed the way of AIG?

Folks, this is something I knew was going to happen. So now, basically the government is going to bailout these newspapers, keep their non profit status and start dictating what they can and can’t include in their newspapers.

Senator Cardin states that the papers could not endorse candidates and would allow investors to make contrbutions. So, you might ask why the Senator is doing this? His answer? He says he wants to preserve a great American tradition. Bullshit. Pure and simple. This is simply a new and improved printed version of the Fairness Doctrine intended to stifle the conservative voice of America once again.

Senator Cardin compares himself to a modern day Thomas Jefferson. He feels that the government has an obligation to keep the public informed. Informed about what? All of the corruption going on within? We’ll certainly never see any of that in print again if this Bill passes.

I am so sick and tired of all the bailouts at the expense of the taxpayers and Senator Cardin wants to get yet another one through our corrupted system.

This bailout would give newspapers the option of restructuring as tax-exempt nonprofits. Did you know that they have always had this option? Just look at the Associated Press. If this Bill passes, not only will the government be able to tell CEO’s of large corporations what to do they will be able tell the newspapers what to print, when to print it, and where to distribute their papers. Doesn’t this freak you out? It’s like Big Brother watching your every step.

Here’s a good book for you if you are interested in reading further:

Joseph Farah’s book Stop the Presses!: The Inside Story of the New Media Revolution
explains why long established traditional newspapers are going into bankruptcy.

..another Senator brought to the forefront of Political Misconduct – Benjamin Cardin
